Volunteer Treasurer - Friends of the Ankeny Library

Reports To: President, Friends of the Ankeny Library
Time Commitment: 5–10 hours per month, with some seasonal variation
About Us:
The Friends of the Ankeny Library is a volunteer-run, nonprofit organization that supports the Ankeny Kirkendall Public Library through fundraising, advocacy, and community events.
We are a group of library lovers who believe in the power of books and the importance of accessible public spaces for all.
Position Overview:
We're looking for a dependable and detail-oriented Volunteer Treasurer to help manage our group's finances and keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes. This is a vital role that helps ensure the success of our fundraising efforts, allowing us to better support library programs, events, and special projects.
Key Responsibilities:
• Maintain accurate financial records for the Friends group
• Track income and expenses related to donations and fundraising events, keeping track of all donor information and year to year giving
• Work with the City of Ankeny staff for reimbursements/payments as needed
• Prepare monthly and annual financial reports for the board
• Administer PayPal, EventBrite and other online giving platforms
• Manage Edward Jones investment account
• Provide financial information for grant applications or reports as needed
• Lead annual appeal mailing
• Send all thank you and tax receipt/documentation
What We're Looking For:
• Basic experience with bookkeeping, budgeting, or financial management (professional or volunteer-based)
• Comfortable using spreadsheets or basic financial software (e.g., Excel, Google Sheets)
• Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
• Reliable, trustworthy, and able to maintain confidentiality
• Passion for public libraries and supporting your local community
• Willingness to collaborate with a team of enthusiastic volunteers
